Newt being too Newt

Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich engaged in a tit-for-tat exchange over how they earned their incomes. Romney thinks Newt should give back the consulting fees he received from Freddie Mac, while Gingrich says Mitt should be ashamed of the work he did at Bain Capital where he was “bankrupting companies and laying-off employees”.

This round goes to Romney. In an excellent blog by Betsy Newmark, she explains how Newt’s attack comes straight out of the left’s playbook. On the other hand, Mitt’s scabbard is pointed directly at the crony capitalism that got the Tea Party all riled up.

In a war of government sponsored enterprises such as Freddie Mac versus the free market capitalism of companies like Bain Capital, the conservative-wing of the Republican party believe capitalist principles win every time .
