The one-day general strike in Oakland devolved into mass chaos overnight as protestor’s burned, graffitied, and vandalized the city. Now who could have seen that coming? Pictures from the aftermath are really disturbing.
Mayor Jean Quan promulgated this mess by first allowing the demonstrators to campout in front of city hall; having the police remove them while she was out-of-town; allowing the campers to move back in the next day; then supporting the protests by allowing all city workers, except for police, to join the strike. This sent a message to the police to back-off the demonstrations and let chaos rule.
