My home state of California is first in the nation once again. We are the only state that has Cap-and-Trade laws. This means we get the privilege of paying more to eat, drive our cars, heat and cool our homes; all for the pleasure of knowing that we will make a micro-miniscule dent in greenhouse gas emissions. Now I know this will put us at a competitive disadvantage, and will probably raise energy prices to European highs. But darn it, we need to suck it up and pay for it. So what if energy-intensive industries leave the state. We don’t need ’em. So what if our food-production industry is harmed. Let ’em starve. So what if our state goes broke. Let the state-dependants and retirees eat cake.
Now this would not be necessary if every country in the world adopt our cap-and-trade laws. A few hundred-million people may starve at the altar of environmentalism. So let ’em. Just please don’t let me fester and die here in Sunny California because we are idiots.
