Times have been tough in the U.S. and Europe. But what is called a recession here becomes starvation in third-world countries. Sub-Saharan Africa has been devastated by the economic downturn. The countries in North-East Africa are all in flux as they cope with developing something that passes as democracy. Tunisia really is headed for theocracy; Egypt and Libya are not too far behind.
